Archives for July 2013
Summer is definitely in full swing here on the Outer Banks, and I can’t believe it’s almost August! I loved meeting up with Pamela and her family at Coquina Beach in South Nags Head. They were so much fun and willing to do whatever I asked. We were blessed with beautiful weather and a fairly empty beach. The girls did great, especially with the promise of putt-putt golf and ice cream! 🙂
Paul and Malinda’s wedding at the Kitty Hawk Pier House could be one of the hottest days we’ve had all summer, but they were troopers! With family and friends gathered they said “I Do” on the beach in front of the Hilton, and followed it up with a beautiful reception inside the Pier House. One of the things I loved most about their wedding was the ceremony set up! Often couples opt for chairs to be arranged traditionally in straight rows, but they chose a semi circle with an isle. I loved it! It’s so visually beautiful and really adds a unique touch to the ceremony. The added benefit is that each guest gets a better view of the couple! Even though it was really hot that they they were blessed with the most AMAZING sunset that night! Seriously some of my favorite sunset pictures….EVER. I absolutely love when couples take a few moments during the reception to head back outside for some night photos and I’m so glad Paul & Malinda were up for it. The results were stunning, and definitely memorable!
Kait & Boo….I could write about them all day! Kait is, hands down, the sweetest person on the planet! Not only is she beautiful, but her beauty goes so far beyond the surface – she truly is a woman of Grace and Humility. She’s found a great match in Boo, who is quiet and loves her so much! I’ve known Boo’s mom, Robin, owner of OBX Cakes By Robin for several years. As a fellow Outer Banks Wedding Vendor, we’ve worked many weddings together, and she was even the baker for my very own wedding cake! I was so excited for their wedding, especially after getting to work with them during their Outer Banks Engagement Session last summer. The week prior to their wedding was some of the worst weather we’ve had. In fact, it was soooo cold and windy at their rehearsal the night before, we couldn’t even stand their arbor up! The weather God’s smiled on Kait & Boo, because it was absolutely gorgeous on their wedding day. They were married at a private home overlooking the sound in Manteo, and everything about their wedding was truly a team effort. I wish them a lifetime of happiness!
Logan opted to have is senior portraits taken at the Avon Pier while vacationing with his family. We finished just in time as we watched the clouds roll in right before the storm started! The weather that day made for a quiet evening on the beach, which is always awesome when you don’t have a crowd of people around!
Check out that crazy sky!
I had the most fun at Erin and Brent’s Outer Banks Engagement Session. Both OBX locals, Erin & Brent now live in another part of NC with their new puppy Lucy. They made a trip back into town to visit family, have their engagement photos taken, and meet with vendors. I’m so glad we were able to get their session in, and they were such good sports between the humidity, bugs, and wind – welcome to the OBX! Erin & Brent wanted something a little different than typical beach photos, so we opted for the sound-side beach access behind Jockey’s Ridge State Park. I love this spot for it’s great walking trail that gives you both shade and greenery, yet you still have the beach and beautiful sunsets over the water. I loved everything about this session – from their puppy Lucy, the wine & cheese picnic, and the photobomb by the kite surfers. These two were a lot of fun, and I can’t wait for their fall wedding at 108 Budleigh in Downtown Manteo!
Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of photographing Katie & Cary’s sunrise engagement session at the Hilton Pier House in Kitty Hawk. It’s a rare occasion that someone wants to do a sunrise session, and I was praying for a beautiful sky for them! The sunrise didn’t disappoint! These two are super sweet and I had a great time getting to work with them. We did some shots down on the beach before heading up on the pier, and back down into the sand. Cary was such a trooper! Like most guys, having your picture taken isn’t the most fun but he hung in there. I can’t wait for their wedding next spring!
We’ve been having crazy weather lately, and last night mother nature finally came through! I was joined on the beach by these three siblings for a session set up by their grandmother. They were all so easy to work it, and I had a great time with them. We had gorgeous weather, and got everything in before the rain came out of nowhere. Thankfully it only lasted a couple of minutes. Let’s hope we can keep up with the sunny skies the rest of the summer!
