Get ready to fall in love with this Nags Head Maternity Session! Any expecting momma will tell you there are perks and pitfalls to just about every season to be pregnant in. Summer is no joke with the heat and humidity here on the east coast but Lauren couldn’t have had a better night for this session. We had such a gorgeous night at Coquina Beach for a mixture of maternity and family photos before this trio becomes a family of four and Sophia welcomes a new little brother or sister.

We were so excited to get to be a part of Chris & Katherine’s Nags Head Golf Links Wedding. There’s always a common misconception that vendors don’t like “small weddings” but that couldn’t be any farther from the truth! In fact we LOVE intimate weddings because they give us more focused time with our couples and often are more laid back. Also, it allows couples to tap into amazing vendors because they don’t have to stretch the budget to accommodate a huge guest list. The Nags Head Golf Links is the perfect spot for weddings of all sizes, and especially intimate weddings. Joined by their closest family and friends, Katherine & Chris had the perfect wedding day!

Oh my gosh…where do I even start with these two? Hands down one of the easiest couples to work with! Emily & Irakli attended the Outer Banks Wedding Expo and we were so happy that in a sea of amazing wedding vendors they picked us. Early this spring we had a chance to meet up at a couple of our favorite OBX spots for their engagement session and had a blast. It was super windy, as spring often is, and these two just rolled with it. I knew their wedding day was going to be amazing because they were committed to doing whatever everyone thought was best – which is 100% the way to go!
All day we’d been watching the weather and I was so relieved when we ended up with mostly overcast skies instead of rain that day. The cloud coverage gave them the most beautiful lighting for their First Look – which was PERECT. Seriously….see for yourself! They opted to read personal vows to each other and even though we were far enough way we couldn’t hear just watching their faces we knew exactly how much they loved each other. I have a soft spot for couples like Emily & Irakli – like my husband and myself, they are also high school sweethearts. It’s not easy to be a young couple with all the odds stacked against you from high school, college, post college education and getting careers off the ground. Yet here they were surrounded by their family and friends, saying “I Do” almost 10 years to do day, with the waves of the Atlantic Ocean crashing underneath them.
They opted to get married *on* the pier, which I love. It’s unique and different and we love getting to capture a bird’s eye view of the ceremony from the balcony. We spent a little more time down on the beach for portraits before making a quick pit stop back up on the pier. Mother Nature always manages to give us a little wink…because for our last handful of shots the sun came out and gave us the most beautiful twinkle from behind the pier house! We headed inside to get this party started and loved every minute of getting to tell their love story!
There’s no bigger honor than when a fellow photographer hires you to photograph their family. With so many different photographers in all styles here on the OBX, I’m always super honored when someone chooses me to document their family memories. Kat is an AMAZING newborn/maternity photographer and I loved getting to work with her sweet family! Family Beach Portraits here on the Outer Banks are a little more unique than a traditional family portrait session you might be used to in other areas. Our sessions are typically a fusion of traditional and lifestyle/documentary. We always spend the first part of the session getting that picture-perfect smiling family portrait you know and love, but the second half of the session is all about having fun! The beach is a fun place for kids, and we want to make sure it stays that way! There’s nothing more magical than watching children experience the ocean for the first time! These boys could not have been more full of joy splashing in the water and jumping over waves!

AnnMarie & Corey had a picture perfect day for their Outer Banks Beach Wedding. It’s not often we get Bahamas blue water here on the OBX, but that’s just what we had on the day of their wedding. The sun was shining, birds were flying, and there was hardly a cloud in the sky. They opted for an intimate wedding with their closest family and friends, having everyone stay together in their cottage for the week. One of my favorite things about capturing intimate weddings is the amount of detail couples are able to put into planning their day when they aren’t having to multiply everything x 100+. From the farmhouse tables and beautiful decor, to the custom slushie machine, to the AMAZING display of cakes and desserts – every detail was thought of! The best part of the day? Having their two pups, Bentley & Beau, to be a part of the day!
So so so excited to have Jess & Lori’s Outer Banks Engagement session on the blog today! These two are so sweet and made my job so easy just their go-with-flow personalities and willingness to just do anything! I first met Jess’ mom at the OBX Wedding Expo as she was gathering info to pass along. We spent some time chatting about what Lori & Jess wanted for the big day and I happily offered up some suggestions on venues to check out and other vendors who might fit their vision. I was thrilled to get an email from Lori a short time later and even more excited to hear they’d finalized their date and venue and wanted to bring me along for the ride! We had a gorgeous day in South Nags Head wandering through the dunes and along the water’s edge. I can’t wait for their Roanoke Island wedding this fall!

I couldn’t be more excited to hare Sara & Adam’s gorgeous and classic Outer Banks Wedding on the blog today! These two are just the sweetest and after getting to know them at their engagement session I knew their wedding day would be amazing. Spring on the OBX can be unpredictable and I’m so thankful we ended up with a rain-free day for these two! Even though the initial forecast showed some on the horizon we managed to sneak by with just some cloud coverage which gave us the perfect conditions for their First Look.
Sara and her girls got ready at her parent’s Roanoke Island home, and we captured the sweetest First Look on the neighborhood boardwalk before heading over to the Elizabethan Gardens. If you’ve never experienced this little slice of heaven on the OBX, you must go! Sara & Adam could not have a picked more a perfect location than the English Gardens tucked away on the north end of Roanoke Island. Capturing their family portraits under a canopy of twisting trees is a welcome change to our usual beach scenery…and one the reasons they picked this venue!
We made a quick stop along the Manteo waterfront before heading to the reception where Sara & Adam joined the end of cocktail hour before kicking off their reception with a sweet first dance and dancing the night away with their friends and family.
When BJ proposed to Jessica just a couple of days before the annual Outer Banks Wedding Expo, he didn’t know what he was in for! Jess is a planner and she knew that in order to get the date and vendors she wanted she needed to kick it into high gear. I got a call from Jess just the day after she got engaged, and after securing her venue we were tickled to be her next stop!
One thing I love about Jess is how open she is to suggestions and her vendor’s professional opinions. As a wedding vendor we want your day to be absolute perfection and it’s such much easier to achieve when our couples chat with us about their wishes and really absorb our feedback. Jess and I chatted about what she envisioned for her day and she and her mom put together a “dream team” of vendors. I am SO excited she picked us to tell her love story.
When we first started talking about their engagement session Jess and BJ knew they wanted something a little different than traditional beach/ocean photos. Initially they picked Nags Head Woods, which has a beautiful canopy of lush trees, moss covered ponds, and a precious weathered footbridge. I always encourage my couples to consider a backup location, and in this case I’m so glad they took my suggestion to also visit Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Upon arrival in Nags Head Woods we found heavy rain had closed the main path due to flooding, which made us immediately go to Plan B. These two easily rolled with the punches and after a quick stop down another trail we headed on over to Jockey’s Ridge.
Jockey’s Ridge has the perfect mixture of woods, sand, greenery….allllll the things. It was super windy on top of the hill but the end result are some amazing and epic images that totally fit their vibe.
I’m so pumped to have Sara and Adam’s Outer Banks Engagement Session up on the blog today!
They both share a love of the Outer Banks, not only does Sara’s family have a beach house in Nags Head they’ve also made Roanoke Island their full time home, so it seems fitting these two would want to get married on the OBX! If you know anything about the Outer Banks you know the spring can be a little bipolar. It’s not uncommon for us to experience every kind of weather imaginable from the hottest days to freezing cold and snow. Our weather was all over the place in the days leading up to their sessions despite some of the craziest wind we’d had in a long time, Mother Nature spared us from rain. We met up at the Bladen St. access for a few beach photos and some hammock relaxing before heading back over to Manteo. Venturing out on the private boardwalk in her parents neighborhood, we captured some of my favorite images from their session! I had so much fun getting to know these two and their sweet pup, Sophie. When you’re a Destination Wedding Photographer it’s super common to book a couple without ever having met them, which was the case with Sara & Adam. Not only are engagement sessions a great way for a couple to get to know their photographer, it’s also a great way for the photographer to get to know their couple.
Brittney & Max’s Jennette’s Pier Outer Banks Wedding is one of our favorites and we’re so excited to get this baby on the blog today!
VENUE: Jennette’s Pier // COORDINATION: Coastyle Weddings & Events // FLORAL & DECOR: Honeysuckle Events // CATERING: Kelly’s Catering // ENTERTAINMENT: Coastal DJ // CAKE: Patty Bakes // HAIR & MAKEUP: Dimensions Salon // ACCOMMODATIONS: Kees Vacations Outer Banks // BRIDE & BRIDESMAID ATTIRE: BHLDN // GROOM & GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: Men’s Warehouse
When corresponding with perspective clients about their Outer Banks Wedding we (selfishly) talk a little about ourselves. I feel it’s so important for our couples to know what to expect when Sara and I are at their wedding! A huge part of our approach to weddings that we’re very laid back and relaxed people. That is NOT to say that we don’t like organization, we we absolutely do – it’s essential on a wedding day! I’m more referencing our personalities and how we interact with our couples and their guests. Because we are not formal and stuffy it’s really important to us that we work with clients who welcome and appreciate our approach. We love to laugh, joke, and keep a very playful vibe on wedding days…they are stressful enough as it is without having to deal with a photographer who is wound tight. You might be wondering what on earth any of this has to do with Brittney & Max’s blog post, but it’s because we seriously could not love Brittney and Max any more for this exact reason! If there was ever a couple who fits our vision it’s these two!
From the moment we photographed their engagement session I knew they would be a great fit. These two love to laugh, are so relaxed, and have a playful spirit with each other. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect personality combo. Weddings are nothing if not organized chaos and you plan to the best of your ability but need to be flexible enough to roll with the punches. They had a few curve-balls thrown at them and we are so thankful for their easy going spirit and allowing us to just figure out a Plan B, then a Plan C to make it happen!
For starters, they picked October envisioning a nice fall day, with Brittney convincing Max fall on the OBX would be cool enough to have the outdoor ceremony she envisioned. Mother Nature played a big fat joke on us, because it was one of the hottest weekends we had – period. From an event tent in our First Look location, moving to “Plan B” only to get swarmed by mosquitoes, they just laughed and rolled right along! My absolute most favorite part of the day was Brittney’s commitment to having an “unplugged ceremony” – asking all of her guests to please turn off all phones, cameras, etc and truly be present in the moment. What a joy it is to look back at their ceremony photos and see smiling faces instead of cell phones and iPads! The end result is a wedding I am so proud we got to be a part of.
We love these two so much, and that made us even more THRILLED to learn their wedding was selected for publication in the upcoming 2019 Outer Banks Weddings Magazine! Be sure to visit The Outer Banks Wedding Association to request your copy and see their amazing spread!
