These two New York natives decided they wanted to live at the beach, so they packed up their lives and moved to the Outer Banks! After getting engaged they knew they wanted to plan their wedding here on the OBX and I was thrilled they picked me to tell their love story!
It’s more than likely that you’ve seen Patrice & Mike before…..their faces have been all over the place since their amazing OBX Engagement Session last year! One of my favorite photos from their session has been used on the majority of the marketing materials for The Outer Banks Wedding Association, and with good reason, these two are gorgeous! To say their wedding day had it’s challenges would be the understatement of the year but these two handled it with grace and ease.
It’s no secret that weather on the OBX can be a bit unpredictable, so going into the day we knew the looming rain on the forecast could pose a problem. Little did we know that would be the least of our worries! That morning I got a call from their planner, Liz, letting me know that Mike’s mom had been taken to the hospital in Virginia. Of course our first concern was making sure she’d be ok, followed by “where will we have this wedding”. The thing with weddings is you never know what you’re going to get – and a huge part of being a wedding photographer is being ready to roll with the punches. I immediately got up, got showered, and got my gear all ready juuuuust in case we needed to make the drive up to VA and have a ceremony in the hospital. Unfortunately hospital policies would have prohibited that and the decision was made to move forward with plans.
We managed to make it all the way through their beach ceremony and a few shots into bridal party photos before the sky started to let out! After a mad dash back to the cottage I decided it was time to improvise and thankfully the back deck provided just enough cover for them to finish out their photos. It’s as if mother nature had finally decided “enough already” and by the time we made it to Duck Woods for their reception the rain had stopped. We jumped at the chance to grab a golf cart and hit the greens for some photos before returning to the reception.
Thankfully the rest of the night went off without a hitch, their friends and family determined to make sure they got their happily ever after!
